Worship

John 4:23 says,” Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father is Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”

Because of Christ worship is no longer confined.  He took something that was a matter of place and time (Old Testament) and made it a matter of heart and mind.  To worship in Spirit is to worship with heart or passion.  To worship in truth is to have knowledge.  Both must be present in worship.  Spirit without truth leads to only an emotional experience.  Truth without emotion makes for a very legalistic or calloused experience.  In worship Christ desires to be both experienced AND known…Spirit and truth.

So, what’s the goal of the church in corporate worship?  Our goal is to raise emotions higher and higher by proclaiming through teaching, preaching, testimonies, videos, handshakes, and hellos, the TRUTH that is Christ.  The more truth(knowledge) that is poured out.  The higher our emotions(spirit) should soar!

Jesus is truth (John 14:6).  To worship in Spirit only is to, by definition, worship without Jesus.  To worship only in truth is to not allow Jesus affect you.  Spirit and Truth.  Not Spirit or truth.  It’s heart and head both engaged.

Worship is a doctrine about God the Father, Jesus his Son, our Savior, ad their rescuing us as sinners.  Knowing this triggers an emotional response from our spirit, which has experienced this reviving or refreshing so it responds accordingly, with Worship.  So, worship, an internal thing, flows to the external.  A true worship experience doesn’t say, “The music was good!”. It says, “Isn’t God awesome!”
